| Specificity | |
SMI 99 reacts with the sequence Ala-Ser-Asp-Tyr-Lys-Ser in position 131-136 of human myelin basic protein. The antibody detects myelin basic protein from most mammalian species. Pig and chicken MBP do not react and guinea pig MBP has slight reactivity. SMI 99 does not react with the 14 Kda form of rat MBP. The antibody isotype is IgG2b. SMI 99 detects developing and adult myelin, developing oligodendrocytes and distinguishes oligodendrocytes from astrocytes, microglia, neurons and other cells in brain sections. The combination of SMI 99 with SMI 91 and/or 94 is useful for immunocytochemical studies on the progression of normal and pathologic myelination. SMI-99 is DEAE-purified IgG from mouse ascites. |

| Suggested Working Dilution | |
The optimal working dilution should be determined for each specific assay condition.
The extent of permissible dilution of SMI 99 beyond those recommended for general application depends upon nature and concentration of the antigen examined, species of the antigen, method of fixation and kind of section examined. |
| Storage | |
Store at -20°C. Upon initial thawing, apportion into working aliquots and store at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles to prevent denaturing the antibody. For long-term storage, keep the antibody at -80°C. |
